Biography

Michael Sculpting

I was born in Norway in 1977, and grew up in Finland and in the Washington DC area. I studied painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art for two years, transferred to the University of Maryland, and graduated in 2000 with a degree in anthropology. I’ve since been working as a painter and a sculptor, showing mainly in the DC-Baltimore area and recently in San Francisco and Los Angeles. In 2004 I finished my first public art project, nine bronze ‘call box sculptures for the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, DC. In 2005 I installed three additional call box sculptures and a portrait sculpture for the Washington Hospital Center. From the fall of 2005 through early 2006 I worked as an assistant to and student of the painter Odd Nerdrum in Norway and Iceland. I currently live and work in San Francsico, where I am represented by Geras-Tousignant Gallery.
